Should we include this as an FYI attachment for the next Staff Alliance meeting agenda?

Job Classification Project Update

Administrative Job Family

The development of the job classification system for University of

Alaska staff positions continues to progress with the completion of the

Administrative Generalist and Administrative Specialist job groups.

With the implementation of these two groups the classification project

will be approximately 80% complete.

A system-wide work team developed the administrative job family.  The

team was made up of statewide and campus human resources staff and

representatives of from several UA departments.  Job family

descriptions, detailed information about the implementation process, and

a list of work team members are on the web at

http://info.alaska.edu/hr/classification/index.xml.

The implementation was effective with the pay period that began on

November 28.  The regional HR Offices have distributed notices to

supervisors/managers and affected employees.  A follow up

implementation, planned for January, will address corrections and any

positions that were missed in the initial implementation.

The administrative generalist and specialist are two of four groups in

the administrative family.  Work on the administrative professional and

administrative management groups is beginning now with implementation

planned for the first quarter of 2005.

The regional human resources offices have reviewed the allocations for

the current implementation and can answer questions about the job

classification system and process.  Questions and comments also may be

directed to Statewide Human Resources (syhrcd@alaska.edu

<mailto:syhrcd@alaska.edu>).

Job Families In Progress

Work continues on several other job families, planned for implementation

in Spring 2005.  Groups currently underway include student services,

procurement, land management, facilities services drafting, and human

resources.  Work on additional groups will begin on completion of the

current administrative implementation.  These include administrative

professional and management, library, safety services, and marine. Job

groups slated to begin early next year include communications/public

relations, health care, media/graphics/web design, risk management, and

facilities services maintenance and operations.

Comments or questions about any aspect of the job classification project

or about participation on a work team may be referred to Statewide Human

Resources (syhrcd@alaska.edu <mailto:syhrcd@alaska.edu>).
