"Promoting Student Success: Engaging Students Inside and Outside of the Classroom" Monday, March 26, 2007 Library 307 8:00 a.m. - Dr. Jan Gehler, Dean of the Community and Technical College, to pick up Dr. Tinto from the hotel and bring to LIB 307. 8:30 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. - Continental breakfast and mingling 9:00 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. - Keynote speaker Dr. Vincent Tinto is a national leader on student success, retention, and student involvement in higher education. Dr. Tinto will review factors contributing to why students don't finish, situations to help students success, strategies colleges are using now, implementation and assessment approaches, and how to make the efforts endure in a way that is scalable. This session is designed for for faculty, student services staff, and administrators. 11:45 a.m. to Noon - Break Noon to 1:15 p.m. - A lunch conversation with Dr. Tinto and faculty on engaged learning and the potential of teaching being a centerpiece for student success activities. 1:15 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. - Break 1:15 p.m. to 2:45 p.m. - Faculty and staff discussions with Dr. Tinto on aligning and collaborating on cross-functional efforts like academic advising, supplemental instruction, and academic learning communities. 2:45 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. - Break 3:15 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. - Faculty and staff discussions with Dr. Tinto on assessing student success efforts inside and outside the classroom and challenges to assessment. 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. - Academic dean and campus director discussions with Dr. Tinto on implementing student success strategies in their areas and faculty incentives for involvement. 5:30 p.m. - Dean or director to take Dr. Tinto to the airport.
